Cardinal Collection is proud to present a series of new collages by Charlie Welch, among a retrospective of fifteen years of zines and books with a strong queer focus and questioning the male figure.

Charlie Welch has been involved with zines since 1994 beginning with the Queer Action Figures collective, and after continued under the name of Sissy Boy. As a talented craft man, Charlie also incorporates in his art practice collage, papier-maché sculptures, photography and archives.

Charlie will also present the publications KNOWSGAY, in collaboration with Paul Moreno, and some of his curated projects including the Queer Collages Workshops that he runs frequently at the BGQSD (the LGBTQIA+ bookstore at the gay Center, NYC, USA).

Charlie is also the co-founder of the New York Queer Zine Fair.

Charlie Welch (bio)

Charlie Welch entered the zine world in 1994 as part of Queer Action Figures and soon after continued on as Sissy Boy. He is a co-founder of the NYQZF as well as one half of KNOWSGAY. Most of his work is inspired by vintage porn, fancy desserts, dirty sailors and sad pop songs, and he creates colorful collages, stickers, zines and tees.
